Your Private Off-Road Adventure: A Different Way to Explore San Diego
A Private Off-Road Tour With San Diego Off-Road Adventures Shows a Side of the County Most Visitors Never Reach
San Diego Off-Road Adventures take you to discover a different side of San Diego
Everybody knows San Diego for its beaches and famous attractions like Balboa Park and La Jolla. But if you’re looking for something different, all you have to do is head inland and suddenly you’re seeing a completely different side of SoCal.
We recently got out with Matt from San Diego Off-Road Adventures, a local company offering private, guided Jeep experiences through some of San Diego’s mountain and desert landscapes. The idea is simple: you get to drive yourself in a fully loaded Jeep Gladiator, and all you have to do is follow Matt in the lead Jeep. He sets the route and pace around your comfort level and what you want to see.
When you get in the Jeep, there’s bottled water and a walkie-talkie waiting for you. He stays in contact throughout the route, pointing out everything from technical sections and the best lines to take, to views, landmarks, and anything else worth noticing along the way.
The Perfect Off-Road Setup for Beginners
That guidance makes a big difference, especially if you’re new to off-roading. There’s a big gap between being handed the keys to a capable vehicle and being guided by someone who knows the terrain. With Matt leading the way, you get the fun of driving yourself without feeling like you’re being dropped into something blind.
The setup is also more comfortable than you might expect. The lead jeep that Matt drives is packed with a cooler, folding table and chairs, cold beverages, snacks, and light food. He can customize the spread depending on your preferences, and can even provide a full lunch if that’s the kind of day you want to build around the drive.
The off-road driving is awesome, but the scenery was probably the biggest surprise. From expansive mountain views and rocky trails, to the Anza-Borrego Desert with its maze of sandy washes and sandstone canyons, this is the kind of terrain most visitors never see.
A Hands-On Way To Explore the Anza-Borrego Desert
It’s a good fit for visitors who want something more hands-on than another sightseeing stop, or even locals who haven’t spent much time exploring the mountains and desert.
At Drives & Detours, we’re always interested in experiences that help people see familiar places from a new angle. San Diego Off-Road Adventures does exactly that. It’s private, guided, flexible, and just adventurous enough to feel like you actually did something.
