Go See Live Music at Pappy & Harriet's

Pappy & Harriet's is famous for attracting well known artists and indie bands to play at its rustic high-desert venue, located in Pioneertown, CA. In recent years, bands like Built to Spill, Hot Chip, and Iron & Wine have played here. Shows can feel incredibly intimate and personal, and you get the sense that a lot of the bands share that same vibe. I remember when Sam Beam from Iron & Wine walked up on stage and the first thing he said into the mic was "wow, this place is cool!"

Because it's so remote, Pappy & Harriet's is not the kind of venue that bands can just quickly drop in and play a show at before moving on. This part of the high desert, and neighboring Joshua Tree, is a destination in itself and famous for attracting musicians looking for inspiration and a chance to disconnect. I'm sure a lot of bands take advantage of this and remain in the area for a couple days or longer, spending some time with friends and fellow musicians. In fact, it's not uncommon to see random guest appearances be invited up on stage because they just happened to be there standing in the audience with you.

Did I mention the food and drink? They have their own mesquite barbecue and some of the best homemade chili I've ever had. And the bar itself is an experience, it makes you feel like you're in a wild west saloon.

If you're interested in seeing live music here, be warned that space is limited, and depending on the act, tickets can sell out fast. They do have an outdoor stage which is open in warmer months and can accommodate a larger audience, but I've always felt that some of the best shows I've seen here have been the indoor ones. Visit their website for more info and a calendar of upcoming shows.
